Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni hinted that he will be playing his farewell game, hopefully in front of fans at the franchise’s domestic city – Chennai. Dhoni promised followers that they will be capable to bid farewell to him after having announced his retirement from global cricket on August 15, 2020, in an unforeseen manner.
Despite hanging up his boots from global cricket, MS Dhoni has persevered to play for Chennai Super Kings in IPL. The CSK captain, a 3-time winner of the IPL, said last year that he used to be “definitely not” going to hang up his boots after IPL 2020 regardless of the team missing out on a play-offs berth for the first time in their history.
MS Dhoni has been leading CSK in IPL 2021. After making a promise that CSK will come back stronger in IPL 2021, Dhoni delivered on it as he led the 3-time champions to the play-offs. CSK are at the 2nd spot with 18 factors with one extra league stage-match left as they look to finish in the top 2.
MS Dhoni has not played in Chennai because IPL 2019 as the following season used to be held in the UAE. CSK did not play in Chennai in the first leg of IPL 2021 and the remainder of the season used to be moved out of India due to Covid-19 concerns.
“When it comes to farewell, you can still come and see play me for CSK and that can be my farewell game. So, you will still get that opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, we will come to see Chennai and play my last game over there and we can meet followers there,” Dhoni said whilst interacting with followers during the 75th year celebrations of India Cements on Tuesday.
Dhoni additionally elaborated on his choice to retire from global cricket on August 15, India’s Independence Day.
