The Centenary of CPC: New Political Theory to Define the Success of China

As the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) is celebrating its centenary, China’s progress over the past 100 years has caught the attention of the world. On July 1, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) hold the grand ceremony to celebrate the CPC centenary, the world’s media also gave the priority to the event.

The CPC has gone through various periods of long struggle and has changed since the first general convention in a village in Shanghai on July 23, 1921. Leading the way, since 1978 with economic openness, science and technology, and the latest research, China had made history by achieving the 2030 Poverty Alleviation Sustainable Development Goals by 2021.

Tiananmen Square in Beijing, where CPC Chairman Mao Zedong announced the modern China- (PRC), Xi Jinping, Chinese President and general secretary of CPC called on China to build a modern socialist China in all its dimensions.

Xi, also the chairman of the Chinese military commission said that the party had been united through all the struggles, sacrifices, and creations and had succeeded in leading the Chinese people for the past century. This unity was aimed at bringing about a great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

China, meanwhile, has risen to prominence, become powerful, and achieved unprecedented progress.  China’s national rejuvenation has also proved to be a historic inevitability, as Xi had mentioned.

China’s success lies in the leadership of the party. ” Any attempt to divide the Party from the Chinese people or to set the people against the Party is bound to fail. The more than 95 million Party members and the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people will never allow such a scenario to come to pass,” he told the world from Tiananmen Square.

He said that the strength of the party was based on the originality and the strength of socialism with Chinese characteristics and had proved that Marxism works.

CPC Different from Other Political Parties

As noted by President Xi- the differentiation between CPC and other political parties in the world lies in its courage in undertaking self-reform. This hallmark of distinguishing is the hallmark of the development model experience by PRC and other nations in the globe too. Today, due to these differences China represents to the world as one of the thriving nations that are advancing with unstoppable momentum toward rejuvenation.

Political parties are the strong force behind the development of nations and the progress of people. President Xi, at CPC and World Political Party Summit on July 6, argued that they need to set the right course forward and shoulder their historical responsibility to ensure the people’s wellbeing and pursue the progress of mankind.

PRC in the leadership of CPC has stepped forward on shaping the shared future for mankind. Political parties need to shoulder the responsibility to promote development by bringing greater benefits to all peoples in a fairer manner, Xi had said at the summit.

In the past 4 decades of economic reform, PRC had promoted the peace, development, and prosperity of the Chinese people.  CPC had led the PRC on uniting and leading the Chinese people in pressing ahead with the modernization with Chinese characteristics.

In these years, China has advocated multilateralism and the common development of the world. “China will never seek hegemony, expansion or sphere of influence,” Xi had added on that summit.

Global political leaders were agreed with president Xi that the political party should shoulder the responsibility for people’s well-being.

New Political Theory to Learn CPC and China

The development and progress achieved by China under the leadership of the CPC have also started a new discourse in the field of world political theory. CPC may identify as an autocratic party and PRC as an autocratic nation in the eyes of contemporary political theories. But, in this world, CPC and PRC should be observed through the new relevant theory.

Chinese state media Xinhua’s think tank New China Research (NCR) has published a research report ahead of the party’s centenary, claiming that the CPC has formulated a new political theory.

The report, titled ” People’s First: Political Commitment of the Century – Old Communist Party of China “, notes that the process from the beginning of more than 50 members to becoming the world’s largest political party has been a remarkable political development.

“The doctrine of the scholars in the West cannot explain the success of the CPC. A new research model should be established that seeks answers from the party’s theory and practice,” the report said.

The three-chapter report explains why the Chinese people have chosen the CPC. How does the CPC represent the people? And what has the CPC contributed to human progress? The report has tried to answer the question.

CPC, meanwhile, has made clear its commitment to its founding goals. At the same time, the report says, building a relationship of trust between the party and the people by adopting a tested democratic system.

Not only that, the new political theory behind the success of the CPC- ABCDE, the secret to the CPC’s success from a global perspective has emerged.

The report cites the first five letters of the English alphabet as the secret to the success of the Chinese Communist Party. ABCDE stands, All for the people; Blueprint drawing; Capacity building; Development shared; and Effective governance.

Meanwhile, the CPC has served the people for 100 years by giving priority to the people. The CPC’s main political objective has been to stand on the side of the person – which differentiates between Marxist political parties and other political parties. The CPC has made changes and efforts over the last 100 years – a report for all the people.

Not only that, the CPC has moved forward with a clear roadmap for 100 years. This is the history of a hundred years of CPC’s continuous hard work. The CPC, meanwhile, has been moving forward with a long-term strategic plan with the people at the center, setting goals at every stage of development and turning the blueprint into reality. Two centenary goals were set by CPC under the leadership of Jiang Zeming in 1997 and advanced by General Secretary Xi in the 18th national congress of the CPC in 2012 are also known as the ‘Chinese Dream.’

The first Centenary refers to the 100th anniversary founding of CPC in 2021 and the second refers to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the PRC in 2049. The first centenary goal is to achieve a full Xiaokang society, which refers to a moderately prosperous society in all respects.  President Xi has announced on the 1st of July that China has realized the first centenary goal- building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. Achieving this goal, China has consequently lifted out 100 million people out of absolute poverty.

On the same day, Xi had announced – “Today, the CPC is rallying and leading the Chinese people on a new journey toward realizing the second centenary goal.” In 2049, China will have become a “Strong, Democratic, Civilized, Harmonious and Modern Socialist Country.”

During this century, China has focused on building political consciousness, ideological capacity, and capacity building to improve its organizational structure. It is because of this capacity of the CPC that the political achievements of the CPC have attracted the attention of the world.

Another feature of CPC has shared development. The CPC has moved forward with formulating its strategic action plan to promote equal prosperity. Achieving progress not only politically but also in the field of economic and social development within the country, China is sharing its development with other countries of the world through projects including BRI for equal development of the world.

Effective governance is the reason why the CPC was elected by the Chinese people. Through agile governance, the CPC has set an example to the world’s political parties by developing a system of governance with the people at the center. China’s progress in human development, emergency response, and daily governance are exemplary. The recent role played by the CPC-led government in controlling Covid-19 is a prime example of this. At a time when so-called democratic and independent nations are fighting the scourge of Covid-19, China is helping the world to fight against the Covid-19 by controlling the transition.

Chinese and foreign experts say that the history of the CPC should be defined as a refined form of Marxism with a new theory. From the point of view of political theory in the West, the study of China’s system of governance, which is seen as a ‘unitary/one-party system of government’, seems to require the development of a fundamental theory. The report of NCR says that China’s development, which is moving towards building a socialist country with 21st-century Chinese characteristics, is a major theoretical exploration of a “common future for humanity.”

In nutshell, the western political theories fall in explaining the success of the CPC. The party leading 1.4 billion of the population should examine the unique and fundamental theories that should be developed by the experience of CPC. “A party of our own”- the aspiration of the Chinese people had made the success of CPC. “A rocklike solidarity” among the people lead by the CPC as mention by American Journalist Edgar Snow who had visited China in the 1930s; had bonded the solidarity of the peoples and party. CPC has constantly reformed itself and adapted to the changing circumstance with policy had helped to achieve this success but one thing remains unchanged- the CPC’s bond with the people. This bonding of the party and people should be observed through the news dimension of the political theory.
