10th BRICS Education Ministers Meeting in Mpumalanga

The 10th BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting lasted for two days in Skukuza, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa and was attended by Education Ministers and representatives of all five BRICS countries, in which Namibia was also present. Invited Special Guest Country.

A statement issued on Thursday on the outcome of the meeting said BRICS countries should prioritize eight thematic areas, including digital education cooperation and mutual recognition of qualifications, including skills for a changing world.

According to the statement, BRICS members are committed to introducing responsive and relevant programs for out-of-school youth and ensuring employability and absorption in labour markets.

The BRICS countries also pledged to improve quality through mutually recognized qualifications and enhance international cooperation on higher education and training in line with the Global Education 2030 Agenda, the statement said.

BRICS is an acronym for Five Emerging Economies – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. South Africa assumed the chairmanship of BRICS on January 1, 2023, taking over from China.
