At the recent Northrop Grumman Bushmaster Users Conference, EOS Defense Systems USA showcased its latest advancements in Remote Weapon Systems (RWS) technology, marking a significant leap in modern warfare capabilities. The live-fire demonstration featured the debut of the R800 RWS and the Slinger RWS, both designed to enhance precision and adaptability on the battlefield.
The R800 RWS stands out as a high-performance weapon station integrating the Northrop Grumman MK44S 30mm cannon. EOS emphasizes that the R800 delivers extended range and precision in a compact footprint—“half the size and weight of a traditional turret”—while maintaining effectiveness across multiple operational scenarios.
R800:
-
Primary Armament: Mk44S/XM813 30 × 173 mm cannon
-
Secondary Armament: Mk52 7.62 mm chain gun or M240 7.62 mm machine gun
-
Missile Integration: Capability to mount Javelin or Spike anti-tank guided missiles
-
Ammunition Capacity: 150 rounds of 30mm dual-feed and 1,000 rounds of 7.62mm
-
Protection Levels: STANAG Level 2 to 4
-
Weight: Less than 2,000 lbs above the roof
The R800’s design allows for seamless integration with various platforms, offering a cost-effective solution without compromising on firepower or protection. Its ability to utilize the full suite of 30x173mm munitions with effects beyond 3 km positions it as a formidable asset in modern combat scenarios.
Also featured was the Slinger RWS, deployed as a counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) effector. The system was equipped with the next-generation Northrop Grumman M230LF dual-feed cannon and mounted on a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), in coordination with integration partner Pratt Miller. In another configuration, the Slinger supported Northrop Grumman’s Modular Advanced Counter UAS Equipment (MACE) system.
The Slinger system is designed for high-precision engagements, particularly against drone threats:
-
Weapon Platform: High precision, weighing less than 400 kg
-
Stabilization: Fully stabilized for on-the-move operation
-
Targeting: Echodyne ultra-low size, weight, and power (SWaP) 4D targeting radar with active beamsteering ESA
-
Sighting System: 4-axis sighting system with sensor unit that moves independently of the gun
-
Ammunition: Lightweight 30 mm Proximity Sensing Ammunition with radio frequency proximity-fuzed, high explosive, fragmentation round
-
Engagement Range: Capable of tracking and engaging moving drones beyond 800m
Designed based on lessons from conflict regions like Ukraine, the Slinger meets contemporary and emerging threats, offering a lightweight and effective solution for urban environments.
During the live-fire demonstration, EOS systems engaged both aerial and ground targets, showcasing their versatility and effectiveness. “Our systems packed a punch—taking down drones and engaging ground targets during the live-fire range activities,” EOS stated following the event.
The demonstration underscored the R800’s capability to deliver turret-level lethality in a compact form and the Slinger’s precision in countering drone threats. The integration of these systems with platforms like the JLTV highlights their adaptability and potential for widespread deployment.
The unveiling of the R800 and Slinger RWS at the Bushmaster Users Conference signifies EOS Defense Systems USA’s commitment to advancing military technology to meet evolving threats. By providing solutions that combine precision, adaptability, and cost-effectiveness, EOS positions itself as a key player in modern defense systems.
As unmanned aerial threats continue to rise, systems like the Slinger offer critical capabilities for countering drones, while the R800 provides enhanced firepower without the need for extensive vehicle modifications. The successful demonstration of these systems suggests a promising future for their integration into various military operations.
