Rap superstar Nicki Minaj declared on January 28 that she is U.S. President Donald Trump’s “number one fan,” asserting that criticism of the president only strengthens her support.
The Trinidadian-born artist, 43, made the announcement while addressing an audience at an event promoting “Trump Accounts,” programs designed to provide trust funds for children. Wearing a furry white coat, Minaj embraced Trump on stage before taking the podium.
“I will say that I am probably the president’s number one fan, and that’s not going to change,” Minaj said. “And the hate or what people have to say, it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more.”
She went on to condemn the president’s critics, saying: “I will not let them get away with bullying him and, you know, the smear campaigns. It’s not going to work. He has a lot of force behind him, and God is protecting him. Amen.”
Trump, who earlier joked about growing out his nails to emulate the “Starships” and “Super Bass” rapper, held Minaj’s hand while another speaker took the podium.
Known for her boundary-pushing music and ever-changing fashion, Minaj has also shifted her political stance in recent years. Once a vocal critic of Trump’s hardline immigration policies, she has increasingly praised his leadership.
Her public support has raised eyebrows among fans and political observers alike, who note that her pivot reflects a broader trend of entertainers taking visible political positions.
In November, Minaj made a surprise appearance at the United Nations to call for an end to faith-based persecution in Nigeria, highlighting allegations the Trump administration has previously raised—a claim denied by the Nigerian government.
The event marks one of Minaj’s most high-profile political endorsements to date, signaling her willingness to engage directly with national politics and align herself with Trump at a time when his presidency remains highly polarizing.
Whether this signals a long-term political partnership or a momentary alignment remains unclear, but Minaj’s outspoken support ensures she will remain a notable figure in the cultural and political conversation surrounding the former president.
