Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the attack on a telegram, saying the first blast of the new year began around 30 minutes after midnight, targeting two districts.
The new year may have begun for the world, but the situation remains the same for Ukraine. On one hand, the world is immersed in the celebration of 2023 while on the other hand, Ukraine is facing the brunt of Russian attacks.
Russian missile attacks continued here on New Year as well. As the clock struck 12 o’clock, Russian missiles targeted other cities, including the capital Kyiv. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed on a telegram that the first explosion of the new year began around 30 minutes after midnight, hitting two districts.
However, no casualty has been reported so far in the attack. Earlier on Saturday also, the Russian administration had claimed that more than 20 cruise missiles were fired from the Russian side, and many people were injured.
These attacks on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv took place shortly after President Volodymyr Zelensky’s message.
Addressing his countrymen on New Year’s Day, Zelensky said that Ukrainians will fight until they win. He said the whole country is fighting as a team. I appreciate everyone for this. I want to thank each and every invincible region of Ukraine. We fight and will keep fighting. To ‘win’.
