Senior US official Uzra Zeya on Monday met Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra and discussed issues of bilateral importance, regional stability and civil security. Zeya, US Under Secretary for Civil Defense, Democracy and Human Rights and Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues, also met Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Zeya said she also had a fruitful conversation with Verma. “Thank you for your continued partnership to address global and regional challenges. US-India cooperation is essential to our most important priorities and to a more peaceful and prosperous world,” he said. On Sunday, the US Under Secretary met the Dalai Lama here, drawing a sharp reaction from China.
In a statement here, the Chinese embassy said, “Xizang (Tibet) matters are entirely China’s internal affairs and no external forces have the right to interfere. Strongly opposes contact of the type.”
