China mass stabbing incident, 2 killed

Two people have died and seven others are being treated in hospital after being wounded in a knife attack in China’s southwestern Yunnan province on Tuesday. Local officials gave this information. In a statement released on Tuesday evening, Luoping County police said a 20-year-old man with a mental illness attacked his mother at home with a knife and then fled after stabbing eight more people. The suspect surnamed Chen, was arrested by public security personnel after the attack, which took place around 8 a.m. in the county’s Lashan urban residential district.

“The investigation of the case and dealing with its consequences are being done in a systematic and legal manner,” the police said in a statement. Although guns are strictly controlled in China, there have been a large number of stabbing incidents in recent years.
