Criticism of US for not initiating Palestinian-Israeli peace process

Ramallah, Palestinian

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Ishtaye has criticized the US for not taking any initiative to revive the Palestinian peace process with Israel, which has been stalled since 2014.

“US President Joe Biden and his administration is the only US president and administration that has not taken any initiative to resolve the conflict (between Israel and the Palestinians),” Ishtaye said at the first Palestinian National Population Conference held in the West Bank on Tuesday. Al-Bireh City.

“President Biden is also the only person who has not sent an envoy for peace, and this US government is playing the role of a bystander in light of Israel’s practices in the Palestinian territories,” he added.

Ishtaye said, “Palestinians are expecting a different approach from the international community to deal with the issue of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.”

In March 2014, the last round of US-sponsored peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis broke down due to their deep differences over Israeli settlement expansion and the issue of a Palestinian state, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Palestinians hope to establish an independent state based on the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital, while Israel claims the whole of Jerusalem as its “indivisible capital”.
