PARIS
A 17-year-old boy, Nahel, was shot dead by the police after he failed to stop at a traffic signal in Nanterre, a suburban area of Paris, the capital of France.
Since this incident, violence has continued in France. Hundreds of people have been demonstrating on the streets of Paris late Wednesday night. Protesters set fire to several buildings and cars and also threw firecrackers at the police.
The police have detained the officer who fired the shot. The French Ministry of Interior has deployed 2,000 policemen on the streets.
