1945-Hindi film actor Sushil Kumar was born on July 4, 1945.

1963- Freedom fighter Pingali Vekaiah, who designed the national flag, died on 4 July 1963.

1979- The construction of Vidyasagar Setu, known as the second Howrah Bridge in Kolkata, started on July 4, 1979.

1982- Bharat Vyas, the famous lyricist of the Bollywood film industry, died on 4 July 1982.

2001- Instructions were given on July 4, 2001, for the release of the citizens (prisoners) of Pakistan from India.

2006-Gandhi Peace Prize winner and former German Ambassador to India Gerhard Fischer passed away on July 4, 2006.
