A 33-year-old Indian labourer died on the spot after being hit by a vehicle going backwards at a workplace in Singapore. A paramedic pronounced him dead at the scene, the Singapore Civil Defense Force said. The incident took place around 3.40 pm. (local time) at 1 Buro Bandh. MOM said it is investigating the matter and has directed Star Ready-Mix to stop operating all vehicles there. MOM said, “As a general safety measure, employers should implement a proper traffic management plan to reduce risks from vehicles.”

This incident comes right after the on-the-job death of a 20-year-old Indian national who died after a part of a building collapsed in Singapore. His body was pulled from the rubble last month in a rescue operation that lasted more than six hours. There have been 14 workplace deaths in Singapore this year, with 46 deaths recorded in 2022 – the highest number since 2016, when 66 people died. MOM had imposed a six-month extended safety period from September 1, 2022, to February 28, 2023, to prevent a “related increase” in workplace deaths, but extended it to May 31, along with introducing additional measures. was given It also increased the maximum fine for violations of WSH laws, which could result in death or serious injury – from $20,000 to $50,000.
