Manipur violence 142 civilians killed

In India’s northeastern state last two months of violence in Manipur, 142 civilians died According to the local government.

In the report presented by the Chief Secretary of Manipur to the Supreme Court of India, it is mentioned that 142 people have died in the violence-affected state. It has been mentioned that there have been 5,000 incidents of arson in the state since last May and the highest number of people lost their lives in the districts of Imphal East and Imphal West.

The Chief Secretary has mentioned in the report that 5,995 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed and 6,745 people have been detained to maintain law and order in the state and to keep the situation under control.

It is said that the local government has mobilized 124 companies of paramilitary forces and 124 teams of the Indian Army to maintain peace in the state. More than 30,000 people have been injured and more than 60,000 have been displaced in the caste riots that have been going on since May 3 in the northeastern state of Manipur.

During the vandalism and arson, hundreds of houses and shops have been burnt down in the state and prohibitory orders have been issued in most parts of the state. The Internet has been banned. Efforts made by the federal government so far to restore peace in Manipur have not yielded the expected results.

One person was killed and two others were injured in the violent clashes that took place in the state on Monday. Violence broke out against the decision to include the non-tribal Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe status.
