Amid ongoing violence in Manipur, NDA ally Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA) on Sunday withdrew its support to the N Biren Singh government in Manipur. The Kuki People’s Alliance has two MLAs in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The BJP has 32 members in the Manipur Assembly, and it has the support of five NPF MLAs and three independents.

The opposition MLAs include seven from the NPP, five from the Congress and six from the JDU. The KPA’s decision to walk out of the ruling coalition comes at a time when the entire state is in the grip of violence.

The chairman of the KPA is Tongmang Haokip. His party Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA) extended its support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for government formation in Manipur on 18 March 2022.

He along with his two newly elected legislators Kimneo Haokip Hangshing and Chinlunthang submitted their letter of support to Manipur Governor La Ganesan at that time. Hangshing represents the Saikul constituency in the Kangpokpi district, while Chinlunthang was elected from the Singhat constituency in Churachandpur district.
