Pakistan: 12 soldiers killed in terror attack in Balochistan

At least 12 soldiers were killed and five others injured in two separate encounters with terrorists in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The army has described it as the highest casualty in a single day in the troubled region. The military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that the terrorist attacks took place on Wednesday in the Sui and Zhob areas of the province. He said that at least seven terrorists have also been killed in these two encounters.

Unidentified gunmen attacked security forces conducting an operation in Sui, killing at least three soldiers and injuring five. The army said that two terrorists have been killed in this encounter. No organization has taken responsibility for it. Earlier on Wednesday, terrorists had attacked an army post of an ordnance depot in Zhob. Nine soldiers were killed in this attack and five terrorists were also killed in the encounter between the two sides. The troops opened fire to foil the terrorists’ attempt to enter the post, which was followed by heavy firing from both sides.

The ISPR said a woman passerby was also killed and five other civilians were injured in the deadly encounter at Zhob. According to the statement, “The operation of the security forces is going on to nab the remaining two terrorists. According to the statement, the death of 12 soldiers in a single day in Balochistan is the highest loss suffered by the army in a single day. Earlier in February 2022, 10 security personnel were killed during an encounter in the Kech district.
