Presidential elections in Madagascar on 9 November

The first round of presidential elections in Madagascar will take place on 9 November. Madagascar’s Prime Minister Christian Ntse told reporters after a cabinet meeting in the capital Antananarivo.

He said on Tuesday that if there is a second round, it would be on December 20. Thanking the Malagasy population for maintaining peace and solidarity, Aintse called on voters to vote on the dates set by the calendar. news

He also called on all politicians to respect the principles of national solidarity to ensure that the elections are held peacefully, Xinhua reported.

“We should have a president who will start his term next January,” he said. The dates for the presidential election were proposed by the Independent National Electoral Commission to the government and the High Constitutional Court on 10 February.

The term of outgoing President Andriy Rajoelina is set to end on January 19, 2024. The timetable for the legislative and municipal elections, which are to be held immediately after the presidential elections, will be announced later.
