Southern California plane crashes; 1 killed, 3 injured

A plane crashed shortly after takeoff in Southern California, killing one passenger and injuring three others.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the single-engine Cessna-172 plane took off from French Valley Airport in Murrieta at about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. There were four people on board the plane.

It crashed shortly after take off. In footage broadcast on news channels, the small plane is seen toppled upside down in a parking lot.

According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the accident happened about 135 km southeast of Los Angeles. One person died on the spot.

Three others have been admitted to hospitals, one of whom has serious injuries. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident.
