Spain, Greece face forest fires, evacuating thousands

Firefighters have made progress in containing wildfires in Spain’s Canary Islands, causing over 12,000 people to evacuate.

In Greece, severe summer forest fires forced the evacuation of villages near the Turkish border, destroying homes.

Archaeologists have discovered a small bedroom in a Roman villa near Pompeii, likely used by slaves, highlighting their low status in the ancient world.

The room was found in the Civita Giuliana villa, about 600 meters north of the destroyed walls of Pompeii.
