Taliban calls on International community to lift sanctions

Kabul

The Taliban has called on the international community to lift the ban to facilitate engagement with global organizations. Tolo News is an Afghan news channel broadcasting from Kabul. After the Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, Afghan assets in foreign reserves were confiscated. In August 2022, the UN Security Council failed to reach an agreement on extending travel exemptions for 13 Taliban officials.

More than US$9 billion in assets were frozen by the US and European countries, restrictions were imposed on the banking system and money transfers abroad, and travel bans were imposed on 15 Taliban officials, according to findings by TOLO News. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said that neither side would benefit from the travel ban. He said, “Around 14 to 15 officials have problems in traveling. It (travel ban) was there earlier but it has been extended. It will not benefit either side as leaders need to engage with the world and develop.” Trips are necessary.” Afghanistan.”

Taliban’s Ministry of Economy (MOE) said that the sanctions imposed by the international community are affecting the lives of the people of Afghanistan. “The policy of pressure and the imposition of sanctions by some countries has affected our countrymen,” said Abdul Latif Nazri, Taliban’s deputy economy minister.

But political analysts gave different opinions about the restrictions imposed on the leaders of the Islamic Emirate. Political analyst Aziz Mariz said, “Taliban want, they can reform as an independent government and accept conditions to get out of blacklist and travel ban.” “The Afghan currency is in good shape because of the strategic deposit of Afghan assets, which guarantees the international value of the Afghan currency, even though it is frozen,” said Azeraksh Hafizi, an economist, according to TOLO News.
