Thailand’s opposition New Leader Appointed: Move Forward Party

Bangkok

Thailand’s opposition party, Move Forward, has named Chaithawat Tulathon as its new leader after Pita Limjaroenrat, who led the party to a May election victory, was thwarted in his attempt to become premier. Move Forward won the most seats in parliament due to youth and urban support for its anti-establishment policies. Pita stepped down as party leader earlier this month amid legal and legislative challenges, and was suspended from parliament in July over allegations of media company ownership. Chaithawat called the move a “temporary restructuring” while Pita clears his name.
