Tunisia, Italy jointly vow to fight illegal immigration

TUNIS

The Tunisian Presidency and senior officials from Tunisia and Italy met in Tunis, pledging to combat illegal immigration together.

Tunisian President Kais Saied met on Wednesday with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, during which both sides agreed that immigration is not only a matter of security but requires a comprehensive response from governments.

The statement said they expressed their desire to develop partnerships in various fields.

On January 11, the Tunisian and Italian foreign ministers held a phone conversation to discuss bilateral relations and the issue of irregular immigration, Xinhua news agency reported.
