Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar has indicated that the country’s military destroyed the bridge linking Russia and Crimea in October last year. 12 since Russia launched a full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022
Listing Ukrainian achievements, Maliar posted on Telegram: “273 days ago, (we) launched the first attack on the Crimean bridge to disrupt Russian logistics.”
His post also mentions the sinking of the Russian warship Moskva (451 days ago) and the liberation of Snake Island (373 days ago), reports CNN.
However, the Ukrainian government has not responded to the minister’s claim.
The Kerch Bridge, which severed a major transport link between mainland Russia and the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula, was also blown up by Ukraine. The attack on the Kerch Bridge not only dealt a major blow to the movement of Russian troops in Ukraine.
It was hailed as a psychological blow for Moscow and a major victory for Kyiv.
Ukrainian officials celebrated the explosion at the time but did not make an outright claim of responsibility.
The Kerch bridge attack came a day after Russian leader Vladimir Putin turned 70. That day, Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, shared a video of the bridge going up in flames as Marilyn Monroe sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President”.
The Ukrainian Navy posted on Facebook, “Air Defense of the Russian Federation, are you sleeping?”
A video showed a portion of the roadway of the bridge destroyed.
