Uzbekistan woman Arrest for drug smuggling

New Delhi

CISF officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI)  arrested a Uzbekistani woman for trying to smuggle drugs. The accused has been handed over to the Customs Department. A senior CISF official said that on August 4, they noticed suspicious behaviour of a foreign passenger, identified as Ikhtivor Abdullayeva, a citizen of Uzbekistan.

She was scheduled to travel to Almaty on an Air Astana flight. His luggage was subjected to a surprise XBIS check and during the inspection, a large quantity of drugs were found inside three cartons. He was then allowed to pass through immigration checks, although he was monitored directly and electronically.

Subsequently, it was found that he changed his travel plans. He was intercepted, following which joint questioning was undertaken by Customs and CISF officials. A thorough checking of his luggage led to the seizure of drugs worth Rs 75 lakh, officials said. She could not produce any documents to carry the medicines. Later, he along with the seized drugs and all his belongings was handed over to the Customs for further processing.
