Nepal has received three Bailey bridges from India and China following the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Paudel Chhetri, India has provided one Bailey bridge, while China has provided two.
“We are coordinating with the respective countries for the materials that we lack. The floods have damaged 57 bridges. We have requested Bailey bridges from our friendly neighbors, India and China, to address this situation,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Chhetri said at a press conference held at the ministry on Friday.
India has pledged to provide a total of 22 Bailey bridges to Nepal. Of these, six are Bailey bridges, while 16 are 70-metre-long single-lane bridges. Chhetri said the steel bridges from India are currently being transported to Nepal.
“We requested 30 Bailey bridges from China, of which two 100-metre-long bridges have already been handed over to Nepal. The remaining bridges are in the process of being delivered,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Chhetri said.
