The second Para-Himalayan Communication and Social Development Conference will be held in Dhulikhel. The Conference, which will run for four days starting from Wednesday, will be inaugurated by Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung and the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song.
Experts from Himalayan nations, including Nepal and China, are scheduled to present research papers at the Conference. According to Professor Han Hong, Director of the Pan-Himalayan Communication Research Center of China, the Conference will feature presentations on topics such as communication development in the Himalayan region, partnerships in social development, and international relations.
The event is being organized by the Pan-Himalayan Communication Research Center, Sichuan Philosophy and Social Science Laboratory of Digital and Public Governance, and the Research Center of Regional Public Administration. It is being hosted by the University of Electronics Science and Technology of China, Kathmandu University, Kangba TV, the Chinese Association for the History of Journalism and Mass Communication, the International Communication Committee, and the Chinese Journal of Communication.
In recent decades, the Para-Himalayan region has become a key partner in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). “Within this framework, experts from the region have been working on building shared partnerships and expanding cross-Himalayan relations. In recent times, countries in this region have been facing common challenges such as climate change, poverty, and security,” Professor Han stated. “The sharing of rapidly developing information technology in this context will play a crucial role in creating a shared concept for solving these issues.”
Professor Han further added that the Conference will serve as an important platform for the exchange of information, building partnerships, and creating a forum for communication among experts to address common challenges. The event aims to promote BRI development while contributing to peace and stability in the Himalayan region.
The Conference will feature research paper presentations by notable participants, including Professors from the University of Texas, Tsinghua University, Kathmandu University, Tribhuvan University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Zhejiang University, Quaid-i-Azam University in Pakistan, University of Delhi and many more will also present.
More than 50 researchers will present their research papers on various issues related to communication and social development during the Conference. Documentaries and book exhibitions focused on the Himalayan region will also be showcased. The first edition of this Conference was held in China in 2019. The second edition, scheduled to be held in Dhulikhel, was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
